We are back in lockdown, and the situation seems even harder than before. While we understand how difficult the circumstances are, as Optimists we want to take the opportunity and try to help to keep morale high.
At the moment we are all dealing with all the changes and challenges that this situation is throwing at us, and this is one of the hardest things for people to deal with. As human beings, we like stability and consistency, sadly, this situation doesn’t allow us to rely on that. Which is resulting in negative feelings and stress.
Unfortunately, the only thing we can do is to think about how to make the best out of a bad situation. Otherwise, what else are we going to do? Being pessimistic and complaining isn’t going to help us solve anything and it will only bring more negative thoughts and feelings.
This is why as a community or a team, we need to try our hardest to focus on the positive side of it.
“You can´t change the past, but you can dictate the direction of your life moving forward”.
How to stay positive
Here are some of the tips we use to stay positive:
Make a list of all the things you are grateful for every morning. By focusing on the good things; even if they are small; we influence our thoughts in order to stay positive.
Keep yourself busy and productive. Having a routine, and things to do can help us stay focused on the present and feel more productive about our days.
Take one step at a time. Sometimes looking at the big picture is really stressful, so it is better to focus on small steps that are achievable now.
Trust the process. When we feel like we are not moving forward, trusting the process and the path we have set up for ourselves, helps us stay on track. It doesn’t matter how long it takes to get there, as long as you are moving in the right direction.
Don’t beat yourself up. We can’t be happy or positive all the time. Sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to feel bad for a moment. This way we can recharge and start again with full energy. In the same way, we can’t be productive and effective every day. We need to appreciate our small victories rather than give us a hard time when something doesn’t happen according to our plan.
Positive outcomes
Here are our positive takeaways from this difficult situation:
Selfless acts of kindness. Since everything started, we all have been witnesses of how good people are. We all have seen how compassionate we can be. What a fantastic side of the human race.
Sense of community. In a world that sometimes seems to be “everyone for themselves”, we are all rising to the occasion and trying our best to support each other. The situation has created a sense of community, and it has helped us realise that what we do, affects not only us but also those around us.
If nothing else, it is great to see how strong we are when we stand together.
Value the important. We think that one essential lesson learnt from all of this is the ability to focus on what really matters in life. Health; both physical and mental, our families and friends, how important are those moments that we spent together and that we can’t wait to share again, hopefully in the near future.
Know ourselves. Sometimes we were so busy, we didn’t have the time to really get to know ourselves and those closest to us. All this extra time at home has allowed us to reflect upon ourselves, our values and has shown us how strong and resilient we can be. It has helped us grow as human beings.
We all have learnt big lessons in the past year, and we hope it will help create a better and brighter future for all of us.
